What to wear and bring to a Pilates or yoga class
No need for a full new wardrobe. Here is a simple checklist for a Pilates or yoga class, so you don't forget anything.
What to wear
- Fitted clothes (leggings, shorts, a fitted top). Loose t-shirts slide up when you're upside down, and the teacher can't see your position.
- Nothing with zips or big buttons on the back, for lying-down exercises.
- Hair tied if it's long, and no big jewellery.
Grip socks for Pilates
Many reformer studios ask you to wear grip socks: socks with small rubber dots underneath, so your feet don't slide on the machine. Some studios sell them at the front desk. Check the class page or ask the studio before your first class.
For yoga, you usually practise barefoot.
What to bring
- A bottle of water. Essential in Dubai, all year round.
- A small towel, especially for vinyasa or hot yoga.
- Your own mat, only if you prefer it: most studios have mats you can use.
- A layer for after class, because the air conditioning is often strong.
Before you leave home
- Eat lightly, ideally 1 to 2 hours before the class.
- Check the address and parking in advance.
- Leave early enough to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the start.
Questions people ask
Do I really need grip socks?
For reformer Pilates, many studios require them for safety and hygiene. For yoga, you're usually barefoot.
Can I wear shorts?
Yes, as long as you're comfortable moving in them. Fitted shorts are easier for reformer.
Do studios have showers?
It depends on the studio. Check the studio's details on Spotd or ask them directly.
