Yoga for beginners in Dubai: how to start
You'd like to start yoga in Dubai but don't know where to begin. Here's how to choose your first class, what to expect, and how to try different studios without a membership.
Which style for your first class?
- Hatha: slower, with time to learn each pose. Ideal to start.
- Vinyasa: you move from pose to pose with your breath. More dynamic, great once you know the basics.
- Yin: long, passive stretches. Very relaxing, and easy to follow.
- Hot yoga: in a heated room. Better to try once you're used to regular classes.
More on each one in yoga styles explained.
Your first class
- Arrive 10 minutes early and tell the teacher it's your first time, and if you have an injury.
- Don't eat a big meal in the 2 hours before.
- Rest whenever you need to: child's pose is always allowed.
- Don't compare yourself to the person on the next mat. Flexibility comes with time.
